Sightseeing for Free in New York and San Francisco

With our vacation dollars being stretched and still wanting to visit the hot spots here in the United States, we need to get creative. New York is a bustling city with much to see and do; and most of it is very expensive. The good news is that there are some great sightseeing this to do and experience for free.

Ground Zero is free and also is something that all of us Americans should see and experience. It is a historic place and to see it in person changes how we view the event and brings it home to what really happened there.

Then on the lighter side there is Central Park, this is also absolutely free and could take you a whole day or more to see and experience everything that is available in the park. The grounds are exquisite; there are all kinds of events, musicians and of course people watching going on all day. Who knows you may even see a celebrity walking their dog and/or jogging in the park.

You can take the Stanton Island Ferry and get the view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the ride is about an hour long and it is totally free, it comes really close to the lady of liberty so that you can get a really good look at her and avoid climbing all those stairs and get a fun boat ride for free.

On the other side of the United States is San Francisco, another pricey city to visit, bargains abound here also. There is a special guided tour(s) of San Francisco's different neighborhoods, these tours are conducted by volunteers so even if you have visited them before, like Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, Nob Hill, you will get the "natives" point of view and from the perspective of someone who lives there.

Take a walk on the Golden Gate Bridge, it is 1.7 miles and give you spectacular views of the city, the ocean and the bridge. You will be able to enjoy the mild pleasant weather that this area has to offer and get your exercise in all at the same time, and all for free.

Golden Gate Park is a must see and experience, to see this park in it's entirety you would need more than two days, it has museums, gardens, walking paths and it sits on 1,000 plus acres of lush land. There is also a national park close by to enjoy. The Golden Gate Park is completely free for your enjoyment.
