So what are you waiting for...pick up your car hire and discover the south east coast of Australia from behind the wheel! When visiting Australia, the Great Ocean Road, with stunning ocean views around every bend, is a must. It stretches from Torquay, the surfing capital of Victoria just south of Geelong, as far as Warrnambool. Just book your car hire and hit the open road!

The Great Ocean Road trip can be done in one day but our advice is to take your time and take in the stunning views. The Great Ocean Road begins near Torquay, a major tourist destination with dazzling sandy beaches and cool blue waters. It's located about 95 kilometres south west of Melbourne, the Surf Coast Highway will take you to Torquay so don't forget your surf board.

From Torquay, the Surf Coast Highway changes to the Great Ocean Road. With magnificent sea views on one side and lush green rain forests and mountains on the other side. It's also good to know that there are plenty rest areas, look-out points or observation areas and areas to capture that breathtaking photo so drive with caution on this narrow winding route which will take you to Nelson.

The most famous tourist attraction on the Great Ocean Road route is of course The Twelve Apostles. The Twelve Apostles is a collection of enormous limestone rock formations that stand tall along the magnificent strand beneath the dramatic and warm Australian skies. This attraction was originally called 'The Sow and Piglets' but was re-named in the 1950's.

The Twelve Apostles are located between the picturesque little towns of Princetown and Campbell, and there's a parking area and visitor centre here as well. You can make your way safely down to the beach by wooden bridge-ways and steps. It's worth the trek once you make it to the strand...just picture it...the breathtaking views and the sound of the crashing waves against the giant rocks.

The funny thing is that there were only nine rocks in the formation itself. Now there are 8, on the 3rd of July 2005 the ninth rock collapsed leaving 8 Apostles remaining. Whatever happens in the future The Twelve Apostles will always remain one of Victoria's and The Great Ocean Road's main attractions.

You can also enjoy a range of outdoor activities along the route from surfing to whale watching. You can even go bush walking or try your hand at fishing.

Accommodation is very plentiful along the Great Ocean Road from hostels to campsites, caravan parks to farmhouses and hotels to guesthouses, the choice is yours!
